The second day of the new year brought some dangerous driving conditions for motorists in eastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia. Traffic was backed up for miles along Interstate 26 as emergency crews had to deal with numerous accidents. Officials said there were 28 wrecks in Johnson City and Washington County, Tennessee. Kingsport authorities reported 25 and there were as many as 50 in Sullivan County. Black ice conditions were reported in a number of locations. With temperatures rising above the freezing mark...driving conditions were expected to improve as the day progressed.
