Woodward Officer, Woman Shot During Stop

A Woodward police officer and a female suspect both were shot during an exchange of gunfire Wednesday.

WOODWARD, Oklahoma -- A Woodward police officer and a female suspect both were shot during an exchange of gunfire Wednesday.

Police said the officer's bulletproof vest may have saved his life.

Officer Travis Munson was shot about 10 a.m. Wednesday after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police said the woman jumped out of her car and open fire, hitting Officer Munson in the abdomen.

Other officers exchanged gunfire, hitting the suspect.

The officer and the woman were both taken to Woodward Regional Hospital.

The suspect, whose name and condition have not been released, was transported by helicopter to OU Medical Center. She was hit in the arm and the head.

Officer Munson is in good condition.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident.
