OKLAHOMA CITY -- Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will host a fund raiser at the Azteca Gym in Oklahoma City. The event will showcase 10 boxers in 5 bouts, including Middleweight Tyrel Brown from Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma.
While the country's economy continues to struggle, non-profit organizations are left scraping to maintain their ability to serve communities.
The Police Athletic League, or PAL, sponsors boxing as promotes prevention programs for juveniles.
"We don't usually have them pay to do that because they can't," Lieutenant David Williams with the Police Athletic League said. "That's why they're coming to us for help, because they can't afford to do it."
The Oklahoma City Charity Fight Night, along with Sugar Ray Leonard and Oklahoma Boxing champion Sean O'Grady are helping to raise money for PAL program, which serves 3,800 children.
"I wanted to be a world champion boxer, so I had a direction during my adolescent years, and to me that's so important for our young kids and that's where PAL fills that void," O'Grady said.
Boxers Larry Holmes and Smokin' Joe Frazier are also expected to be at the event.
Sugar Ray Leonard will also visit the Sports Blitz Sunday on NEWS 9 at 10.
