I've now heard from about 2 dozen brides who aren't sure how to get their dresses that they ordered. Over the weekend I received an anonymous fax that appears to be a statement from Orban Vannostran. Unfortunately, part of it is illegible. But part of what I can read is as follows:
"Recently the sales (at the store) dropped so severely that it forced an audit. It was a shocking discovery of numerous unpaid invoices, a stash of sales tickets that were never reported, special orders that were either missing or never placed, and other signs of mismanagement. I, along with the Sales Associates, vendors, and customers have been completely misled by the Store Manager. She was confronted with these facts which she denied. When the Store Manager was unable to cover up her efforts, she left last week and told me she would not be returning and that she was unreachable. Without any money left and bank loans almost impossible in this recession.... (Illegible)... Now bankruptcy is my only option."
Last week I put a call into the Oklahoma City Police Department, and they do not have any records of theft/embezzlement charges filed by Vannostran or Peggy's Bridal.
Vannostran has now disconnected his home phone number and has yet to return my calls.
If you're a bride/groom in a bind, I have been contacted by a couple of local formal wear shops that can get dresses/tuxes fairly quickly (Some have a local warehouse). However, you'd have to pay again. I know that's not good, but if you're truly in a bind and need something quick you may want to call one of the following:
Tom's Formalwear in OKC - Bryon at 681-0309
Enchanted Evening Bridal & Formalwear in Oklahoma City - Franni 948-1267
Bridal shop in downtown Enid. 580-234-7017
