FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- It's been a long time dropping.
The National Weather Service says the Red River dropped below flood stage at 2:30 a.m. in Fargo after 61 days. The weather service says that's a record time for flood stage in the city.
The river rose above its 18-foot flood stage on March 20.
Hydrologist Mike Lukes says it's been a long time but "we made it through to a happy ending."
Fargo residents survived two crests of the river -- the first at a record 40.82 feet, the second at 34 feet.
Other areas in the region also sustained flooding from record precipitation, an early freeze, heavy snow and saturated soil.
