Roof Collapse: Who's at Fault?

This is one of those stories, where someone is not quite telling the whole truth.  One side says the worker walked off the job.  The other side says the homeowners fired them and threatened to call police.  The one thing I know for sure is something I found out late today.

I talked to the city of Yukon and they have a citation waiting for Dan Jone's Roofing Company.  He is the original contractor who subcontracted to Chad Buffington.  In Yukon you must have a "contractor's license" if you're doing roofing work in the city.  They say Jones did not.  Buffington didn't have one either. 

That's something to always check on.  While there's no state license, many city's require roofers and contractors to have permits.  This ensures that they have the proper insurance and workers comp.
