MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – A 21-year-old Del City man was shot after being confronted by five men while driving down a Midwest City street overnight Saturday.

The victim, John Hogue, said he and his girlfriend were driving to a friend's house at about 1:30 a.m. when they were stopped by several black males in the 3800 block of Parkwoods Lane.

Hogue said one of the men stuck his head through an open passenger window and asked for a cigarette. When Hogue said he didn't have any, the man became persistent which lead to a verbal altercation.

Hogue said he got out of the car and four of the five men ran off. The fifth man, who had asked for the cigarette, then fired three shots from a small handgun at the 21-year-old's car and fled.

Hogue was struck by a bullet in the left shoulder.

Hogue and his girlfriend drove to a nearby house and called 911. When police arrived on scene, witnesses said the suspects had run to a home in the 3800 block of Parkwoods Lane. Police found the men, including the suspect who matched witnesses' descriptions.

Witnesses positively identified 18-year-old Leno Henderson as the person who shot Hogue.

Henderson was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and transported to the Oklahoma County Jail. His bond is set at $7,500.

Hogue was taken to OU Medical Center where he was treated and released.

"These random and uncalled acts of violence are very frustrating for us as a police agency because they make no sense at all," said Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. "We are fortunate our victim was not hurt any worse and also by the fact we have the suspect in custody."
