OKLAHOMA CITY -- The U.S. Postal Service said it is attempting to make deliveries throughout the state despite the winter storm, but it may be impossible to get to some areas.

Letter carriers trekked out into the heavy snow and skin-numbing winds Tuesday, but many found themselves stranded in the weather and unable to deliver the mail.

"Our goal is to provide delivery to as many addresses as possible, and attempts will be made to do so as conditions permit," said Oklahoma District Manager Julie Gosdin. "We have many dedicated employees who make every effort to perform their duties daily; however, the safety of our employees is our top priority."

The Postal Service has asked people to be patient as carriers try to deliver the mail over the next few days. They're urging people to clear snow from curbs and pathways to mailboxes to make it easier -- and safer -- for carriers to do their job.
