OKLAHOMA CITY – One of the previously conjoined twins, who was separated at OU Children's Hospital in January 2009, has died.
Preslee Wells died after losing a fight to recover from separation surgery two years ago.
Preslee and Kylee had been joined at the chest since their birth on October 25, 2008. Their combined weight was eight pounds seven ounces. They were separated during a more than three-hour surgery on January 19, 2009.
The family issued this statement regarding her death:
"After a long courageous fight to recover from conjoined twins separation just over two years ago, our little Preslee Wells passed today at Children's Hospital at about 2:30 p.m. We are so thankful for the time we had with her and are so proud of Preslee and her fight to recover from surgery. We take great comfort that she is now in a better place. During this time of sorrow, we respectfully request our privacy so we can grieve as a family. Her sister, Kylee, continues to do well and has been at home for more than a year."
A fund for the family has been set up at any MidFirst Bank under Kylee and Preslee Wells.
