OKLAHOMA CITY -- Every Monday, some children in Oklahoma eat their first meal since the previous Friday. Because their families cannot afford to buy food, they only eat when they're at school.

"You have to take into consideration a child may have school lunch at 10:30 [a.m.] on Friday and have nothing else to eat or very little until school breakfast Monday morning," Regional Food Bank Executive Director Rodney Bivens said.

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and News 9 are teaming up to change that, one backpack at a time. Every Friday, the Food For Kids program feeds 10,000 Oklahoma grade schoolers. The children pick up backpacks filled with healthy snacks to take home. The food keeps their stomachs full over the weekend.

You can feed a child for an entire year by donating $200. Watch Oklahoma's Own News 9 throughout the day for information on how you can help the Food For Kids program.
