STILLWATER, Oklahoma — Oklahoma State junior Chelsea Garcia has been named an Academic- All-American on the Capital One Academic All-American First Team, University Division.
The Moore, Okla. native is the fifth Cowgirl softball player in school history to be named to the Academic All-America first team, and Garcia is the first since Lauren Bay was honored in 2003.
Garcia leads the team in both home runs with 12 and home runs batted in with 53 and the talented shortstop is hitting .337 on the season.
This isn't Garcia's first academic honor, as she is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and a two-time first-team Academic All-District VI choice.
Furthermore, she has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in secondary education/mathematics with a minor in Spanish at OSU.
The Cowgirls continue play in the NCAA Super Regional Friday at 6 p.m. with the winner of the best-of-three series advancing to the Women's College World Series.
