MARSHALL COUNTY, Oklahoma -- Father's Day turns tragic during a father and son fishing trip at Lake Texoma on Sunday.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Carlton Joseph Peters of Lubbock, Texas drowned at Lake Texoma near Wood Island on Sunday while saving his son.
Troopers say Peters was fishing with his son when a wave of water due to high wind carried his son away. Peters then swam to his son to pull him back to shore. Another family member helped get the child to shore but was unable to reach the father before he went under.
Peters' body was recovered around 5 p.m. on Sunday. He was not wearing a life vest, his son was.
