EDMOND, Oklahoma – A teenager accused of attacking a classmate at Edmond Memorial High School appeared in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

Shakil Fields came to court with his mother. The 18 year old is charged with assault and battery. Prosecutors say he attacked the then 15-year-old victim in a bathroom.

One of the witnesses to the beating testified during Tuesday's hearing. He says he was in the bathroom with the victim and another friend when Fields rushed out of a stall, claiming someone said the N-word. The witness says Fields demanded to know who said it, and when everyone denied it, Fields punched the victim in the head.

The witness told the court when the victim fell on the ground, field stomped on the teen's head twice and kicked him in the jaw. The witness claimed Fields then told them he'd kill anyone if they told on him.

The Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office asked to add another charge against Fields because of the alleged threat. Fields' attorney, David Slane, says the witness never reported the alleged threat to police.

The victim also took the stand, but says he has no memory of the incident. He received a skull fracture, concussion, lacerations and a hematoma.

The judge set a pre-trial date for August 17.
