STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State announced Friday that it has officially granted releases to four players to transfer away from the school, including Sand Springs product Johnny Deaton.
Rivals.com rated Deaton the No. 7 overall recruit in the state in the 2010 class, and the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback recruit in the nation. His senior season with the Sandites was cut short by injury, but he accounted for more than 3,000 all-purpose yards as a junior.
He saw the field one time as a true freshman for OSU last year, completing one of his two pass attempts in the season opener against Washington State.
Deaton's departure from Oklahoma State will be joined by offensive lineman Javius Townsend, defensive lineman Ashaad Mabry and receiver Nate Sorenson. Deaton is a sophomore, while the other three are freshmen.
OSU's statement on the departures did not include where the players will transfer, but did say that none of them had any legal or academic problems.
"They were in good standing at Oklahoma State and we wish all of them well in their pursuits," head coach Mike Gundy said.
