OKLAHOMA CITY – Will Rogers Airport is hosting the "Flu Shots on the Fly" event to help prevent the spread of viruses in the airport. Partnering with the Visiting Nurses Association, the airport will be offering flu shots every Friday morning throughout October.
According to airport officials, the shots will be given from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Friday in October. On Friday, October 7 and 21, the shots will be given in the center concourse next to Harold's Shoe Shine. On Friday, October 14 and 28, the shots will be given in the ticket lobby across from the United Airlines ticket counter.
"Approximately 10,000 people pass through the terminal every day providing the opportunity to spread the flu virus," said Karen Carney, Public Information and Marketing Manager. "As we get ready to enter the busy holiday travel season and the height of the flu season, we want to make it easy for visitors to the airport to get vaccinated."
The cost for the shot is $25, and the flu mist is $30. Officials said high dose vaccine for those over 65 years of age and pneumonia shots will also be available.
The airport also recommended travelers to take additional precautions, including:
Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing,
Wash hands often with soap and water,
Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth,
Try to avoid close contact with sick people and if you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities.
