BETHANY, Oklahoma – The Bethany Police Department is hoping someone will come forward and help investigators identify the body found in a duffel bag in a field near a grocery store.
An animal rescue group found the bag around 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, in a heavily wooded area behind the Homeland at N.W. 23rd Street and Rockwell. They called 911. When Bethany police officers arrived they smelled the odor of decomposition and found human remains within the duffel bag.

Because of the level of decomposition, the age and sex of the deceased person cannot be determined yet. Once investigators have finished gathering evidence, they will take the remains to the State Medical Examiner's Office for identification.
Bethany Police called in the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to help process and search the area. Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area during the three or four days preceding the discovery of the body should call the Bethany Police Department at (405) 789-2323.
