NORMAN, Oklahoma – OU coach Lon Kruger's first recruiting class is a small one but a talented one.
High school seniors Buddy Hield and Jelon Hornbeak signed their letters of intent to play basketball at Oklahoma.
Hield is a 6-4, 190-pound versatile guard from Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan. He is listed by recruiting service Rivals.com as the 17th-best shooting guard in the country and 94th-best overall.
Kruger said Hield is athletic and has a refreshing attitude on the court.
"He loves to play, he loves to compete," Kruger said. "He runs the floor very well. He's a scorer who has a passion for the game and will be a great addition to our program."
Hield averaged 17.4 points and 4.6 rebounds as a junior last season at Sunrise Christian.
Jelon Hornbeak is a similar player to Hield in many ways, edging out Hield for the 16th-best shooting guard spot on Rivals.com's list.
Hornbeak is a 6-4, 185-pound guard from Grace Preparatory Academy in Arlington, Texas.
Hornbeak averaged 10.7 points per game as a junior to go along with eight rebounds.
Kruger said Hornbeak is combo guard who can play both off the ball and at the point if needed.
"He has the ability to score, is a good defender and is used to winning all of his life," Kruger said. "We're very excited to have him and, like Buddy, will be a great addition."
