Residents in Norman can now find out who their neighbors are. The Norman Police Department has compiled a list of all 68 registered sex and violent offenders who currently reside in Norman. The department has posted the list on its website.
State statute requires all sex and violent offenders to register as such. During the registration process, offenders are assigned a risk level between 1 and 3. Level 1 offenders register annually for 15 years. Level 2 offenders must register semi-annually for 25 years and Level 3 offenders register every 90 days for a lifetime. However, at any level, the offender is still required to check in with the police department. Norman police officers also conduct at least one unannounced compliance check of each of the 68 registered offenders during that same time.
The website also offers residents a map of the city, which identifies where offenders can and cannot live, a list of frequently asked questions and a list of the individual registrants. On the website, each offender is listed with their picture, address and physical description.
