A man committed suicide following a standoff that began when bounty hunters tried to take the man into custody early Thursday morning.

The bounty hunters found 35-year-old Matthew Ryan Harris around 1:40 a.m. in the 1300 block of S.W. 32nd Street.  He was wanted on outstanding warrants for narcotics charges and escape.  The bounty hunters contacted Oklahoma City Police for assistance.

Police said Harris barricaded himself inside a house, but others who lived at the residence followed officers' orders to exit.  Police made contact with Harris and observed he had a firearm.

Officers tried to negotiate with Harris for several hours, but eventually brought in the department's Tactical Unit.  As the unit responded to the scene around 8:30 a.m., Harris killed himself.

The homicide unit is investigating Harris' death.
