NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners are set to tip off against the Houston Cougars in the All-College Classic Saturday, in what's billed as the nation's oldest tournament.
Even though the Cougars are 4-4, the Sooners realize that the record can be deceiving and that they're in for a tough game.
"They're a good team," Lon Kruger said. "They're a good rebounding team. They've got a lot of good weapons, good compliment of big guys on the inside, perimeter guys that can score."
The Sooners are 7-1 in the first eight games under Lon Kruger, with three games after the tournament before conference play begins. Despite exceeding expectations, they still have plenty to work on over the next three weeks.
"Eight games into the season, we're comfortable with where we're at, but there's a lot of room for improvement," guard Sam Grooms said. There are a lot of things we need to do as a team to get better and ready for conference play."
The All-College Classic tips at 7 p.m. Saturday as the Sooners take on the Cougars, followed by a matchup between Oklahoma State and New Mexico at 9:30.
