Man Convicted For Attacking Cleveland County Deputy

Troy Leal was found guilty of attacking a Cleveland County deputy during a hearing to take away his parole.

A man who tried to slash his own throat in a Cleveland County courtroom and then assaulted a sheriff's deputy who tried to stop him was convicted Tuesday of assault and battery on a police officer.

Troy Leal was found guilty of attacking a Cleveland County deputy during a hearing to take away his parole.

Leal had been convicted of two felonies, oral sodomy and indecent proposals to a child.

The deputy needed 18 stitches following the attack. Leal will be sentenced in February.
