Edmond Police arrested a man accused of trying to pry open a bank's ATM with a crowbar.

A witness called police on the night of Friday, December 30, when they saw someone trying to break into the Citizens Bank cash machine at 4691 West I-35 Frontage Road. When police arrived, the suspect was gone. The witness gave them a description and told officers the man had headed west into a group of trees.

Police located the suspect sitting in the passenger's seat of a red Chevrolet Cavalier parked in a private driveway just west of the ATM. Another person was sitting in the driver's seat.

Officers separated the two people and began questioning them. One officer asked 33-year-old Duncan Duff Canady what happened that night, and the officer said Canady immediately confessed to trying to break into the ATM with a crowbar.

According to the police report, Canady said the other person in the car had no knowledge of what he planned to do. He said the person just gave him a ride to the area.

Police arrested Canady and found a backpack containing two crowbars, a handheld radio, a set of wire cutters and duct tape.

Police said Canady asked if he'd be able to get his crowbars back, and officers advised him that would likely not be possible.

Canady was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on one count of burglary and one count of public intoxication. The other person in the car was not arrested because police believed there was not enough evidence.
