Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett says Oklahoma City area residents have met his goal of losing a combined 1 million pounds as part of his effort to improve fitness in the city.
Cornett made the announcement Thursday at the elephant exhibit at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
The mayor said a total of 47,116 people tracked their weight loss on the website www.thiscityisgoingonadiet.com during the past four years.
Cornett says he decided to challenge residents to face obesity and "stop living in their cars" four years ago when he started trying to lose some of his 217 pounds. The 5-foot-10 inch Cornett says he's now down to 180 pounds.
