My 2 Cents: School Under Fire For Church-Provided Meals To Football Players

It happens all over America, as the Friday night lights are warming up, high school football players are munching on burgers, or pizza or some other dinner provided by nearby churches.

But at Ridgeland High School in Georgia they might have to end the tradition of local churches preparing meals for the team because the FFRF, the Freedom FROM Religion Foundation thinks it's unconstitutional.

They want the coach investigated because, not only does he allow churches to provide meals, he prays with the team, quotes scripture in motivational speeches and is involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Can you imagine the damage he's doing to those boys?

I can tell you firsthand the church-provided pregame meals happen here in Oklahoma City. Inner city kids, especially, who might not get a decent pregame meal, are often times the ones who benefit the most from the support from the churches.

And what do the churches get out of it? A flood of new members? No. Simply a chance to show these kids they care about them, that they matter.

I think it's time to call the bluff of these some of these groups fighting freedom of religion. If you're truly concerned about the churches proselytizing to the kids then you sign up and feed these football players, I feel certain the church groups will be glad to work out an alternating schedule with you.
