Police say a woman recanted a story early Monday morning that involved gunshots, a car chase and a hit-and-run in southwest Oklahoma City.

The woman went to a house near S.W. 29th and Portland asking for help. She claimed a car hit her then took off. An ambulance took her to a hospital.

The woman also told police a story that included gunfire and a car chase. After questioning the woman, police determined she made the whole story up. She eventually told police she'd been assaulted at a nightclub.

Police don't know why she lied.

She could face charges for the hoax that police call a "complete waste of time."

While this was happening, police were also responding to a shooting near the 7-Eleven store at S.W. 44th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. Officers say that was an unrelated incident that actually happened, but the victim in that shooting is being uncooperative with police.
