A man who reportedly tried to rob a convenience store in southwest Oklahoma City ended up being detained by the store clerk and two witnesses until officers arrived.

Dane Sheldon Taylor, 24, was arrested on one count of grand larceny.

According to Oklahoma City police, officers responded to the report of a potential armed robbery on Tuesday, January 8 at the M Store, located at 6000 S. Eastern Ave. in Oklahoma City. The caller told police a man was trying to rob the store with a knife.

When officers arrived at the scene, the store clerk was holding a man down, later identified as Dane Sheldon Taylor.

According to the store clerk, Taylor had come into the store and ordered some food. The clerk said he turned his back away from Taylor to get the food, but when he turned around, Taylor was reaching over the counter to grab a blue bag full of money. The money, the clerk said, is what people pay their Oklahoma Natural Gas bills with.

Taylor reportedly then ran out of the store and got into his vehicle in the parking lot. The store clerk ran after Taylor and caught him in his vehicle, that's when the two got into a fight.

Two witnesses in the parking lot helped the clerk by getting Taylor out of the vehicle and onto the ground.

The clerk and the witnesses told police a knife had possibly fallen from Taylor's pocket during the fight. However, they said Taylor had never pulled the knife on anyone.

Taylor was sent to the Southwest Medical Center to be checked out before being transported to the Oklahoma County Jail.
