A significant winter storm is still on track to impact Oklahoma overnight Sunday through the day on Monday.

The storm appears to be slowing and in turn, strengthening. Right now, rain and possibly a few storms could develop ahead of the storm Sunday evening in central and western Oklahoma before the transition into very heavy snow.

Exact amounts and placement of amounts are still being fine tuned, but the heaviest snow will likely be in western and northern Oklahoma. Central Oklahoma, including OKC, will likely still see snow, but amounts are still a bit of a question mark.

The primary difference with this storm compared to the last two we've seen? The wind. Once the system moves into Oklahoma, winds will shift to the north at 20 to 40 mph with higher gusts. Combine the wind with heavy snowfall and you have yourself a blizzard. Low visibilities, dangerous wind chills, and lots of travel problems.

Start preparing now, especially if you're in western and northern Oklahoma, for a major winter storm. I do expect OKC to be impacted, but the exact snowfall amounts are still being determined.
