Campbell, Cats Blast Braves, 10-0

The Rogers State baseball team ended the weekend with a 10-0 run-rule victory over Ottawa (Kan.) on Sunday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.

Senior Colton Campbell led the Hillcats at the plate as he belted three doubles on the day and went 4-for-4 with four RBIs in the contest. RSU tallied 14 hits and used a four-run fourth inning to jump start the offense. RSU ended the nine-inning contest in the seventh, facing the minimum to complete the 10-0 run-rule.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, the Hillcats capitalized on two OU errors to take the lead. Eric Baker singled up the middle and stole second to start the two-out rally. Hector Rivera hit a routine ground out to third base but Nick Deichler threw the ball over the first baseman's head allowing Rivera to reach first and Baker to score. Jose Olazagasti followed with a fly ball to left field that was dropped by Tyler Christenson to put runners on first and third. Campbell drove both runs in with a double into the right-center field gap. Tyler Wheeler capped the scoring for RSU with a RBI single to left field, allowing Campbell to score.

The Braves loaded the bases in the top of the fourth with a single and two walks. But southpaw Brandon Bargas got out of the inning with a strikeout to keep OU scoreless.

In the fifth, Campbell doubled down the left field line and scored on a double by Wheeler. Ramcy Lora followed with a single through the left side of the infield to put runners on first and third. Wheeler scored on an OU error to push the RSU lead to 6-0.

Baker led off the sixth with a walk while Rivera and Olazagasti tallied consecutive singles to start the inning with the bases loaded. Campbell followed with his third double of the day to send Baker and Rivera home.Wheeler hit a RBI single to left-center and scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice by Ramcy Lora to give RSU the 10-0 lead.

Jesus Del Rosario faced the minimum in the seventh to seal the short-game victory. Bargas tallied the win on the mound with six scoreless innings of work. He allowed six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Wheeler finished the day going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and leadoff hitter Baker went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Rogers State (15-3) opens Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday as the Cats host St. Gregory's in a twin bill starting at 2 p.m.
