Midwest City Police say a rash of burglaries may have been thwarted if neighbors had immediately reported suspicious activity.
Police Chief Brandon Clabes says the department has recently noticed there have been eye witnesses to crimes in progress, but those people did not notify police. He cited a burglary in which the suspects stayed in a home for 30 minutes, ransacking the house and stealing food from the freezer, along with the washer and dryer.
Police say three people saw the suspects burglarizing the house, but didn’t call 911 until the washing machine fell out of the thieves’ truck as they drove away.
Chief Clabes says police can only be successful at their jobs with help from the public. He urges neighbors to be aware of activity around their homes, and immediately call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
