After dropping a pair of games to Cameron earlier this month, the Southwestern Oklahoma State University softball team returned the favor to the Aggies on Tuesday, claiming victories of 6-5 and 13-8 in Lawton.
Following a leadoff single from Johnna Smith, Audra Chambless hit her first home run of the season and giving SWOSU an early 2-0 lead. Kori Oord followed that home run with a solo shot of her own in the third inning to push the lead to 3-0 before Cameron quickly tied the game with one run in the third and two in the fourth.
An RBI single from Megan Watson in the fifth put the Bulldogs back on top 4-3 and two insurance runs on a Cameron error proved to be very important for SWOSU. The Aggies responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough to overcome their deficit, allowing SWOSU to get the game one win 6-5.
The SWOSU hitters kept it up in the second game. After falling down 3-0 after the first inning, Watson hit a solo homer in the second and Johnna Smith followed that with a two-run double to get the score back even at 3-3. Cameron quickly responded with a pair of runs before the SWOSU offense exploded in the third inning.
Watson hit her second home run of the game, this one a three-run shot, and Caitlyn Deason sent away a two-run bomb as part of a six-run inning which put SWOSU in control 9-5. Watson added an RBI single in the fourth while Deason homered in her second straight at-bat in the fifth to give SWOSU a 12-8 lead and an insurance run off a Cameron error scored the Bulldogs season-high 13th run of the game.
Conference play resumes for the Lady Bulldogs this weekend when they travel to Ouachita Baptist for a four-game series.
