People stood in the street and cheered on two suspects as they led police on a slow chase through a northwest Oklahoma City late Thursday night.
Just before 10 p.m., police tried to stop the driver for a traffic violation, but the man refused to pull over. That sparked a chase that went over the Broadway Extension, but returned repeatedly to a neighborhood at N.W. 85th Street and Harvey.
Dozens of neighbors stood on the street and watched as officers chased the car, which crept by at only 20 mph because all four of the suspect's tires were blown out by stop sticks. The driver was even seen talking on his cell phone during the chase.
After about an hour, the suspect drove into the front yard of a home and surrendered after officers, with guns drawn, surrounded the car. He and his female passenger were arrested. The man faces charges for trying to elude police, and the woman faces drug possession charges.
It's not known why they tried to outrun police.
