An aspiring Olympic rower was shot and killed by his girlfriend's estranged husband back in December in what turned out to be a murder-suicide. The news of Bill Schnittman's tragic death devastated his teammates.
Now, News 9 went to find out how the team is moving forward to honor the past.
With a little practice, Kathryn Schiro, Chelsea Smith, and their teammates can pull through anything, even the tough times.
In December 2012, the USA rowers, training in Oklahoma City, suffered a loss no training could have prepared them for.
Their fellow rower, Bill Schnittman died, when an alleged stalker gunned him down in northwest Oklahoma City.
The team grieved Bill's death, calling him their motivator, who would undoubtedly encourage the team to stay in good spirits
So the rowers agreed the tragedy would not be a setback for the team. Instead, it's their incentive to win.
The rowers are now pushing forward to honor of their teammate who will forever be close to their heart.
The team not only put Schnittman's name on their uniforms, but also named a boat at the Devon Boathouse after him.
