A couple in Moore feels like they're in the middle of a restoration scam after receiving what they're calling an outrageous cleaning bill.
They say the price tag went from $2,500 to more than $7,000 in one day.
The couple says their insurance agent told them they had the option to have a cleaning service come into their tornado-damaged home and salvage some of their belongings. The couple took the advice.
"It's just not right to drop a $7,000 bill on somebody's lap without some kind of notification," said Terry McGee.
"We had a lot of nice big furniture and my understanding is they would probably go in and see what they could salvage, clean it up and take it," said Debra McGee.
A few weeks after the cleaning, the McGee's called the cleaning company, Service Professionals Inc. out of Oklahoma City, asking for a list of items cleaned.
"From looking at that, because we had went back to the house periodically, [it was] what was left of the house, and it just didn't look right," said Debra.
Debra says a lot of what was on the list was never touched. She called back and left a message to get the items taken off, but it wasn't over. Not too long after, the couple received not one, but two bills which they were told had to be paid out of pocket.
"The first bill was $2,500 and some change, and the very next day, they revised it, and the bill went to $7,100 and some change," said Terry and Debra.
The McGee's say $5,000 alone was for cleaning clothes. They've been told by the company the bill has to be paid before they can even sift through what's been salvaged.
"And I have no problem paying a bill, I just think that's a little outrageous," said Debra.
News 9 tried repeatedly getting in touch with who we're told are the owners of Service Professionals INC. We're still waiting on a call back.
