Family members of a man killed in an apparent hit-and-run collision are not giving up on their search for justice.
It's been more than two years since deputies found 28-year-old Waylon Bullcoming dismembered on a rural road near Seiling. Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander says a criminal investigation is still open.
Sander says just about every lead in the case has turned into a dead end. Those dead ends are creating a frustrating situation for the Bullcoming's mom, Diane White, who has traveled more than a thousand miles looking for answers.
"Because of the condition of the body, they had to bring him straight from the mortuary to the grave site," White said.
Bullcoming was killed when at least one vehicle hit him on a county road outside Seiling in May 2011. The impact was so great that the body was found in pieces. Deputies interviewed a driver who they say hit the body on accident, but that's just the beginning.
"The question then came in, was Mr. Bullcoming hit by a previous vehicle before that," Sander said.
White, who is in town from Montana, says her son's death was the product of an intentional hit-and-run collision. She believes Bullcoming was targeted.
The Dewey County Sheriff's Office is still investigating, even though the Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death an accident. That ruling has led other law enforcement agencies to pull back.
"My frustration right now is with the law enforcement not investigating," White said.
For months, White has been doing her own investigation. She believes her son was killed over jealous rage from the boyfriend of a woman her son was talking to. The Sheriff says, right now, there are no suspects.
"[We've] tracked down everything that's came up, but we still haven't come up with any good leads," Sander said.
White says, one day, justice will be served.
"If they don't make it into court … I know that they will be tried, and they'll be judged," White said.
