Frances Curtis' heart sank one morning last week when she heard her dachshund Heinrich from outside.
"There was a panic bark," says Curtis.
A coyote had jumped her fence and was going after her three dogs. The coyote clamped down on Heinrich when he got in front of Curtis' miniature yorkie.
"It was in attack mode," says Curtis. So, she grabbed a shovel with one purpose.
"I was going to kill it."
The Mustang woman clocked the coyote twice in the head, before the animal jumped back over the fence.
Heinrich needed stitches but is getting back to his normal self.
"You just do what you do because you love them so much," says Curtis.
Curtis wants others in Mustang to be aware that coyotes maybe more aggressive these days looking for food.
