Suicide Threat Ends Peacefully Along HWY 9 Near Riverwind Casino

A standoff near Newcastle has ended peacefully.

The standoff began just after 2 p.m. Thursday along Highway 9 between Riverwind Casino and Highway 62 where police say a woman was threatening to commit suicide inside her car.

Newcastle police responded to the threat with assistance from OHP, Blanchard police and McLain County sheriff's deputies. Highway 9 in this area was shut down while police tried to end the threat.

After approximately 20 minutes, the woman got out of her white SUV and is believed to be okay.

Highway 9 is expected to reopen once the crews leave the scene.
