Police responded to a standoff situation with a man claiming to have weapons and explosive devices at a home in Shawnee, Friday evening.

Deputies with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's office were called to the scene, located about a mile and a half east of Bryan St., on MacArthur St., on the northeast side Shawnee at around 5 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies held a perimeter around the home for a spell and waited for tribal police to arrive, since the incident happened on tribal land.

Authorities say the man was acting alone. And crews maintained contact with the suspect via telephone conversations. They say the suspect claimed to be suicidal, and said he had multiple weapons and C-4 explosives inside the home.

According to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff, the man was standing outside of his home holding a rifle and the fear at the time was that he may have been trying to commit suicide by cop. The man also threatened to shoot at Bob Mills SkyNews9 HD.
