The heat Friday morning was too much for several firefighters trying to extinguish a duplex fire. Two of them were treated for heat exhaustion at the scene near N.W. 10th and Council in Oklahoma City.
"When we put our gear on, it's like putting on all your winter clothes that you can muster together. There's no way for the heat to get out. Couple that with high heat, humidity in the atmosphere. It's a recipe for heat related injuries," said Battalion Chief Mike Kelley with the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
Another firefighter suffered a neck and back injury. They're all expected to be okay.
The fire was mostly contained to the second floor of the duplex. Two families were home. They all made it out safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
