Gov. Mary Fallin is in Washington testifying before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about renewed funding for surface transportation.
The current chairman of the National Governors Association, Fallin testified Tuesday on behalf of governors who are encouraging Congress to reach an agreement on surface transportation reauthorization. Fallin told the panel investing in transportation infrastructure fosters economic growth and job creation in states and the nation.
She also says previous reauthorization bills and a series of legislative extensions have created uncertainty at the national level and forced states to take steps to develop infrastructure. Still, she added such successful state efforts do not justify federal "disengagement or devolution."
She says there is bipartisan support among governors that surface transportation requires long-term funding stability.
