A family spent more than two years searching for their dog "Speedy" before finally giving up. Speedy lived with the Whittons of Oklahoma City for about 49 years, in dog years.

"He's just very special. I don't really know how to describe it except that he's very special and everyone that knows him grows to love him," said Lori Whitton. "He has definitely lived up to his to his name speedy. He's a fast little guy and he gets out a lot."

When Speedy got out of the Whitton's back yard for the last time, it was 14 dog years ago.

"Just panic because I know that when he gets out, he's gone," said Whitton. "He was spotted up at the shopping center up by our house and that was the last anybody ever saw or heard of him."

Lori and Don Whitton barricaded their backyard fearing they could lose another member of their pack. They hung hundreds of posters but every road they searched during the last 26 months came up empty.

"We were talking about speedy and how much we missed him," said Whitton. "And I finally just said I know he's not coming home."

As fate would have it, though, Speedy appeared that next day. Whitton credited Speedy's microchip.

"I just, I couldn't believe it. I just simply could not believe it and he was down in Norman on the OU campus."

The pack is complete again and Speedy is back in his mother's arms, which always has been his favorite spot.
