For the second year in a row, Destinee Martinez will be spending her summer as a member of the USA Softball Women's National Team, it was announced Sunday by the Amateur Softball Association of America and USA Softball.

Martinez, who recently completed her eligibility at Oklahoma, was one of 17 softball players selected to the team following a selection camp and a series of exhibition games. The 17-person roster will regroup next month for an exhibition game in Morgantown, W. Va. before traveling to Irvine, Calif., for the General Tire World Cup of Softball July 7-13.

In preparation for the International Softball Federation Women's World Championships, August 15-24, 2014 in Haarlem, Netherlands, the 2014 Women's National Team will compete in exhibition games as well as three tournaments that include the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif., July 7-13, the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, July 15-21 and Italian Softball Week in Azzano, Italy, August 6-10.

Last summer marked the first team that Martinez was a member of the US Women's National Team. She played in all five games at the World Cup of Softball as she scored a run and collected one hit as the US took home the silver medal.

Martinez was instrumental in the team winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games Qualifier, hitting .375 (6-16) with 10 runs scored, four runs batted in, four walks and a stolen base.

The Corona, Calif., native ended her OU career with the fifth-most at-bats (789) and seventh-most hits (268) in Big 12 history. In the Oklahoma record books, she finished fourth in at-bats, fifth in hits and eighth in both runs scored (164) and stolen bases (55).

Martinez was named All-Region three times in her career and was also a three-time All-Big 12 honoree, including placements on the first team in 2013 and 2011.
