Oklahoma has been tabbed as the favorites to win its ninth Big 12 championship in the 2014 Big 12 Football Preseason Poll, voted on by media representatives who cover the conference.
Thursday’s announcement from the Big 12 marks the fourth time in the past five seasons that OU has been selected as the preseason favorites.
OU garnered 47 of the 56 first-place votes and 548 total points to top the preseason rankings. Baylor finished second in the rankings with 508 total points and nine first-place votes. The top five is rounded out by Kansas State (377), Texas (376) and Oklahoma State (312).
Placing sixth and seventh respectively was Texas Tech and TCU followed by West Virginia, Iowa State and Kansas to fill out the rankings.
The Sooners come into the season leading the league with eight Big 12 championships (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012), while Texas is the next closest with three Big 12 crowns.
