An Elk City boy died Saturday evening in an ATV accident in Beckham County.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on private property about two miles south and five miles west of Elk City.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 10-year-old boy was driving a 1999 Honda Four Trax in a pasture when he lost control, was thrown six feet and the ATV rolled over him one time.

Troopers say the boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident.

The OHP report states the cause of the accident was unsafe speed, and the boy was not wearing a helmet.
