OU Volleyball Falls To No. 10 Florida In Five Sets

Oklahoma lost a five-set thriller to No. 10 Florida at the weekend finale of the Active Ankle Challenge in Gainesville, Florida.

The University of Oklahoma and Florida volleyball teams played an up-and-down match at the weekend finale of the Active Ankle Challenge as the Sooners wound up on the short-side of a 3-2 decision. Oklahoma is now 2-1 following a 25-22, 26-28, 12-25, 25-22, 8-15 setback to the No. 10 Gators on Saturday afternoon.

For the third straight match, redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Madison Ward led the OU attack with 18 kills, matching a career-high set against Georgia Southern on Friday evening. She added a career-high 16 digs to register the second double-double of her career.

Florida's Alex Holston led all player with 19 kills and a .436 hitting percentage. Overall, the Gators has four players in double figures, including Simone Antwi at 13 with a .440 hitting percentage.

Florida, which improved to 3-0 on the season, hit a collective .250, while holding Oklahoma to a .151 attack rate.

Mackenzie Dagostino collected 51 assists for the winning side and junior setter Julia Doyle tallied a season-high 47. She reached the 40-assist mark in all three matches this weekend and has now reached it in 23 career matches.

Junior libero Taylor Migliazzo led all players with 21 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner also reached double figures with 10 and chipped in seven kills.

Junior outside hitter Kierra Holst contributed 11 kills and four digs, while sophomore middle blocker Micaela Spann picked up nine kills and six blocks.

The Sooners return to action next Friday with a short trip down I-35 for the SMU Tournament. Action begins with a 4 p.m. contest on Sept. 5 against Texas Southern.
