Authorities in Logan County have called off the search for the night. Crews spent Tuesday evening looking for a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle, leading police on a chase. Authorities said he crashed out near Bryant and County Road 74 where the white Chevrolet pickup truck, with Arkansas plates caught fire.
He's described as a white male with brown hair a dark beard, last seen wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans.
Authorities said he also has a Mexican female, approximately 8-10 years old with him.
She was last seen wearing a backpack.
“That's particularly disturbing considering the recklessness of the chase on the way here,” said Chief Deputy Richard Stephens with Logan County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities told News 9 a Guthrie police officer saw the suspect coming out of Guthrie Junior High School with a female child. Authorities ran the plate and it came back stolen. Then the pursuit began.
Authorities said the suspect led police onto the county road and ran through a locked gate at a high rate of speed into a wooded area. The suspect vehicle caught fire and the male and female took off.
An Oklahoma Highway Patrol chopper with thermal cameras was used in the area. There were multiple K9 units also searching the area.
It's unknown if they set it on fire or if crash set it on fire, Chief Deputy Stephens said. The fire has impaired the remnants of the suspect's scent, making it challenging for the K9 officers on scene to trace them, according to authorities.
The rural, wooded area leads to Skeleton Creek, according to Chief Deputy Stephens.
