A man armed with a gun got within feet of an Oklahoma elementary school Thursday, and it was all caught on camera. One woman came face-to-face with him and called police for quick action.
“Peppy was barking like crazy,” Victoria Johnson said about her neighbor's dog.
And Peppy wasn't letting up. So Victoria looked out the window, and her eyes met a gun.
“I opened the curtain, and he was just six feet away,” Johnson said. “He was right here, and he was bent over so that nobody could see him, but he had the gun, and I'm staring him right here in the face.”
She grabbed her phone, ran to the opposite end of her house and called police. When Johnson peaked outside again, the man was headed right for an elementary school.
“I watched him get almost to Lincoln Elementary, and so the cops came flying by,” Johnson said.
Police showed up, but the suspect took off running. Another officer pulled up and followed the suspect, but he disappeared into the woods. Police quickly found Joseph Keith Scott. He was dangerously close to too many people.
“I was a lot concerned about those children,” Johnson said.
And too close for Peppy.
“Thank god for Peppy,” Johnson said.
Scott was booked into the Grady County Jail facing several charges. Police said the elementary school was placed on lockdown.
