Three months since a 3-year-old Oklahoma boy was fighting for his life after a terrible accident, there has been an overwhelming effort to help him get better, including a benefit concert in OKC.

Last summer, Elijah Hedges' family didn't know if he was going to make it, after the steel ramp of a flatbed trailer fell on top of his head. And although there's more recovery ahead, the family is happy to report Elijah is improving.

"He's getting better every day. He's starting to move his left side and waving,” said Elijah's mother, Kayla Hedges.

Elijah isn't the same active, bubbly kid he used to be, but he's getting there.

"He is doing therapy to try to eat, speak, talk and walk," Kayla said.

This after the ramp of flatbed trailer came crashing down on Elijah's head in July up in Seiling, leaving him with severe head trauma and a long, expensive road to recovery.

"It's been a draining, emotional wreck," she said.

That's until total strangers decided to help.

"Never met her in my life. Never met Elijah either," said organizer, Bobby Burgess.

Burgess saw Elijah's story and organized a benefit concert at Thunder Alley Grill, near I-240 and S. Pennsylvania Ave.

“It caught my eye, and I said, ‘I want to do something.' So I got some people together, and we did,” said Burgess.

Burgess invited Elijah's family to come down from Seiling, where they were met with support and gifts. Several bands played, including Lost Kozz, R&R Crossroads, Best 4 Last, Mother Duck and F.N.G.

“Everybody can relate. It's a hard time for him and the family, and just a little kid in trouble who needed a little help, so however we can do it, we will,” said Lost Kozz guitarist, Rich Kuczajda.

There were raffle tickets sold for prizes and a bake sale for a special night of fundraising and dancing that Elijah's family says they are grateful for.
