An affidavit revealed more information about a man who is accused of crashing his car into the Ten Commandments monument at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Michael Reed, 29, is facing multiple charges, including destruction of state property/improvements, reckless driving, operating vehicle while license revoked, indecent exposure, four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and making threatening statements.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, at about 7 p.m. Thursday, troopers received a report that someone had driven their vehicle into the Ten Commandments monument at the State Capitol. The driver, later identified as Reed, reportedly abandoned the car and fled the scene.
In the morning of Friday, October 24, Reed walked into the Federal Building in Oklahoma City and began spitting on the pictures inside the lobby, according to an affidavit released on Tuesday,
While being taken into custody by guards in the building, Reed reportedly stated that he had destroyed the Ten Commandments Monument at the State Capitol, and he made a verbal threat about the President of the United States.
Secret Service agents then interviewed Reed, who again confessed to intentionally destroying the monument with his car. Reed then told the agents that before driving into the monument, he urinated on it.
According to the affidavit, Reed stated he had been told to do these acts by Lucifer. Secret Service agents turned him over to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol's Investigations Division.
Reed reportedly told authorities that he has been diagnosed with Bipolar and was off his medication. He was transported to the Oklahoma County Crisis Intervention Center for evaluation.
However, at about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, an employee with the Oklahoma County Crisis Intervention Center called 911 requesting police assistance. Reed had thrown a chair, striking another patient at the center.
According to the affidavit, Reed also attacked the same patient and overturned two tables. When staff members approached Reed, Reed reportedly threatened to stab them with a pencil. He then made additional verbal statements that he was going to kill the President.
Reed is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Jail.
