New Boxcar Development Underway In Deep Deuce District

A unique development is turning heads in the Deep Deuce District downtown. Five weeks ago several empty boxcars, or shipping containers, showed up at the corner of 2nd Street and Oklahoma Avenue. A local development group is turning those empty boxcars into a mixed-use development. 

They said they're calling it “OKSEA.” The anchor tenant will be a restaurant-bar called “Anchor Down.” It will be run by the same group of folks who operate the very successful “Mule” restaurant-bar in the Plaza District. The development will also offer retail and office space, and even a 4500 square foot dog park next door. 

Richard McKown is one of the developers. “I keep my ear to the ground and I listen to architects tell me they have a wild idea. I'm always up for it,” he snickered Friday afternoon. 

Architect Wade Scaramucci and general contractor Ryan Smith said they're also having fun with the project, which should be open for business by Valentine's Day.
