Edmond has called a special election for next year to consider an ordinance regarding electronic message signs.

The Oklahoma County Election Board said the issue will be up for a vote on April 7, 2015.

The ordinance on the ballot would ban the use of electronic signs inside the city limits of Edmond. That means any electronic sign utilizing lights, diodes or similar illumination to create letters or numbers for products or services sold on the property will be prohibited.

Three former Edmond mayors created a petition to bring the issue to a vote back in February.
